President D’Souza Asks Congress to Bolster Research Investment

AADR President Rena D’Souza appeared before the House Subcommittee on Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations today to give remarks on the FY13 budget. Dr. D’Souza gave a compelling justification for a stronger NIH/NIDCR budget in the coming year, mentioning advances in the prevention of tooth decay, detection and treatment of oral cancer as examples of the good that has been done; and the stagnant NIH budget as the primary obstacle to continued progress. Dr. D’Souza stated AADR support for a budget level of $32 billion for NIH, and $450 million for NIDCR in FY13. Immediately following Dr. D’Souza’s remarks, the subcommittee chairman Rep. Denny Rehberg (D-MT) remarked that the various associations present conveyed a consistent message on NIH appropriations.
